Modified Rules & RegulationsObject of the 1-on-1 Player GameRefer to the Rules & Regulations for details. Object of the 2-on-2 Player GameThe rules are the same as 1-on-1; however two players share the same field against two other players. Players can also share effects with their partners. The card limits for the field will remain the same as if just one duelist was playing. Each player must take turns as normal; however, teammates can not share or switch turns. A teammate can not have a turn, and then the other teammate has a turn without giving the other team a turn in between. Monster Summoning Rules (Version 5)Refer to the Rules & Regulations for details. Legal DecksRefer to the Rules & Regulations for details. Forbidden and Limited CardsRefer to the Rules & Regulations for details. Forbidden (Cards that can never be used)· Any of the three God cards. · Any non-official promotional cards. · Any foreign cards that are effect, spell, ritual, and trap. · Any counterfeit cards. · Any of the Exodia monster cards. · Any of the F-I-N-A-L spell and trap cards. · Any fusion material monsters. Limited (One per deck) & Sub-Limited (Two per deck)Refer to the Rules & Regulations for details. Supplemental RulesAdditional Rules1. A player can not attack, use spell or trap cards in the first round. 2. Once the first duel begins, cards can not be exchanged until after the entire match. 3. There is no ante of cards. 4. The host or a neutral party must keep the score. 5. The choice of entering in a team battle is up to the host. Deck Master RulesThe only difference between the Deck Master and the normal method of playing is the use of a monster as a backup. There is no limit as to the attribute, level or type of monster chosen, according to the rules of the game. Only single card and non-fusion-material monsters can be chosen (the five pieces of Exodia and the Blue Eyes Ultimate Dragon would not be options). To use a Deck Master, a player must choose from their main deck a monster card. The selected monster would then be placed in the Fusion-Material Monster Zone face up atop the fusion-material monsters. The Deck Master can only be called to the field if the player has no monster, trap or spell cards on the field and no cards in hand. If the Deck Master is destroyed, that player loses. Player LevelsBeginners· Duelists that have been playing for less then six months. Novice (Used by the SLCPA) · Duelists that have been playing between six and twelve months. Intermediate· Duelists that have been playing between one and two years. Advanced (Used by the SLCPA)
· Duelists that have been playing for at least two years. Spell Counters & TokensMany effect monster, spell and trap cards require the use of spell counters or tokens. It is recommended that players use the clever alternatives used below: · Cards (placed backwards in an one-sided, viewable plastic cover) · Coins (such as pennies, nickels and dimes) · Paper (pieces marked with statistical information) If all else fails, be creative. Make sure everyone knows and agrees on the method used for spell counters and tokens. Differences between Versions 3 & 5About every year Konami releases a new set of rules. Version 3 was released in 2003, Version 4 in 2004 and Version 5 in 2005. Version 4 had a few minor rule changes, but those rules were changed again for Version 5. Here are the relevant changes between versions 3 and 5: · When a fusion monster is destroyed, it is sent to the graveyard. · When a fusion monster is returned to the hand of its owner, it is sent back to the fusion deck. · Monster effects that are continuous, ignition (cost), trigger & flip have a spell speed of 1. · Monster effects that are multi-trigger have a spell speed of 2. · Monster tokens can be used as tributes to summon monsters, unless otherwise specified by the token's effect. · Multi-turn spell cards that are not continuous can be sent to the graveyard after activation, thus allowing the effect to continue until its end and free up a space for a new spell or trap card. · If during the battle phase a player activates a monster effect, spell or trap card that adds to the number of monsters on the field, the battle phase restarts and the attacking player can choose a new target.
