Scion has submitted a patch to allow RM4.1 to compile with the new
GCC 3.3.2. It fixes a compile time error that prevents the
codebase from successfully compiling. After you download the
patch, to run the patch, go into the RM4 src directory and
type:
patch -u act_wiz.c rm-gcc_3.3.2.patch

MudWorld ResortMUD 4.1 Revision 0 is now available for Linux. New
to this codebase is an addition to the do_memory function. If you
type "memory" on the MUD, you will see a version ID and the date
the new version began developement. In addition every known bug
that is applicable to this code has been corrected.
If you discover a new bug, please post it and the fix, if one is
available, at MudWorld on its forums. Make sure to post bugs in
their appropriate discussions. Samson and Zebeid provided additional
ResortMUD specific bugs not listed here. Thank you!
Farther down the page is a list of changes or new additions to the
Beta code, other then being released in both Windows and Linux
versions. Again, we can not assist you if you do not use Windows 98
and up or Linux with RedHat or Debian.
Since RM4.0 has been previously released, it does not have to hold to
what is listed in the next paragraph. However, RM4.0b does now have
a derivitive license, please obey it, if and when released, you
decide to use the code.
We are not currently planning to release either of the ResortMUD 5.0
codebases. We wish to respect the wishes of former staff and the
dead by not to releasing certain code. We have been gradually
moving some code in ResortMUD 5.0 to 4.0b when permission is given
and then releasing it periodicly.
The Story of ResortMUD!
Created after his rise up the MUD administrative ladder, Ntanel
StormBlade started ResortMUD on May 8th of 1997, based on a vision he
had with Yakkov Silverman and the support of Josh Herbst. It was
meant to be a resort for MUD players and administrators to just relax
and talk, but instead became a full MUD with nearly 100 areas at its
peak.
During early 1999, ResortMUD divided staff and resources to become two
seperate MUDs, one still being named ResortMUD and the other calling
itself Rogue Winds. The breakup was due to artistic differences
between the administration and the future of the MUD.
On August 17th of the year 2000, ResortMUD again divided up after
being merged with Approaching Zero just under a year and this time was
because Ntanel had a new network to manage, but still needed a MUD to
run IMC and no longer had time to support a large MUD with a full
compliment of staff and players. He gave a copy of ResortMUD to his
partner Badastaz and long time administrator Garinan so they could
continue the MUD as a new form, ResortMUD 2: The Last Resort -
Approaching Zero.
During the existance of ResortMUD, it has been thru various changes
and many codebase releases. The codebase releases go in this order:
ShogTag 1.0 (Combination of the names Shogar and Tagith), ResortMUD
2.0, ResortMUD 3.0, ResortMUD 3.0a (Updated IMC Edition), ResortMUD
4.0a (Incomplete code which is the result of ResortMUD and Rogue Winds
dividing), CalareyMUD 1.0 (First ResortMUD Derivitive) and ResortMUD
4.0 Beta (Improved version of RM4.0). There are two unreleased
versions called ResortMUD 5.0a (Version which Ntanel ran)
and ResortMUD 5.0b (Version which Badastaz ran).
NOTE: If you plan on using Windows and not a Unix/Linux machine
with a newer version of GCC compiler using newer versions of Debian or
RedHat, do not expect any help with support since we did not design
the code for RM3.0 or RM4.0a elsewhere and do not have experience with
other systems.
