-         The world's first and longest-running science fiction MMO turns ten!

-         Funcom celebrates ten years of groundbreaking innovation, with one of the first games ever to feature in-game advertisement, instancing, massive player vs. player combat, in-game concerts, virtual items and more

Durham, USA - June 23, 2011 - This month Funcom is celebrating the ten year anniversary for Anarchy Online! On the 27 of June 2001 the world's first science fiction- based massively multi-player online game launched, and now, a decade later, thousands of players still call the world of Rubi-ka their home.

The history of Anarchy Online is one of innovation and pioneer work. The development started as early as 1995, in an age when the Internet was reserved for hardcore adopters. The initial design document even questioned whether the Internet had a future, and the stated hope was to get at least 2500 players. For Funcom, Anarchy Online has always been a proving ground for new and exciting ideas, both in terms of game play, technology and business models. Instancing, massive player vs. player combat, digital download of games, in-game advertisement, virtual world radio, concerts, virtual items, freemium business models - the list goes on. These are but some of the areas where Anarchy Online has served as an initiator and innovator.

Now, millions of gamers and many innovations later, Funcom are ready to throw down the biggest party on Rubi-Ka to date.

When Anarchy Online launched ten years ago nobody would have predicted where it would go, and that we would even see this day are all thanks to the dedication of our players and our community, says Colin Cragg, Game Director on Anarchy Online. I have so many fond memories from the years with Anarchy Online, and there are so many people to thank. The span of time and the way our world has touched the lives of so many is something we will always cherish. The fact that the kids of couples who met in AO are now playing our game says it all. I feel incredibly grateful to have been a part of Anarchy Online, and can't wait to see what the future holds in store for us all.

As a part of the celebration Funcom is adding new content to boost the festivities. Ranging from an all new birthday raid to new vehicles, clothes, gear, action figures and pets, players will have tons of new content to play around with. Players who choose to re-subscribe during the festivities will even get a special "Heckler of Celebration" social pet, and many other benefits. The Heckler is known as one of the most notorious monsters in Anarchy Online, and it comes complete with a rocky personality and a 10th anniversary Birthday Hat.

And of course, no celebration would be complete without a grand party, and we're featuring music from the founders of the world's first virtual game radio. The combined efforts of Funcom, in-game volunteers and Gridstream Productions is going to bring it to you live with one of the biggest AO parties ever. Running over three days on two dimensions, this is the Anarchy event of the decade. The party starts this Friday, and a complete list of times can be found on the official site.

We hope you will join us for the party, and if you have not been to Rubi-Ka for a while we are certain that you have a lot of exciting new content to catch up on.

See you on Rubi-Ka!

Note: if you have uninstalled the game, or want to try Anarchy Online for the first time, please go to http://www.anarchy-online.com/download

Award-winning MMO Age of Conan soon available in a savage, sexy and brutal UNRATED version featuring a hybrid business model

Durham, USA, May 25th, 2011, Funcom is excited to announce that the award-winning and critically acclaimed massively multiplayer online game Age of Conan: Hyborian Adventures will receive a digital re-launch this summer under the new name Age of Conan: Unrated. As well as reaffirming its position as the sexiest and most savage MMO in the world, Age of Conan: Unrated will also feature a hybrid business model allowing anyone to freely roam the vast lands of Hyboria either as free players or premium subscribers with access to extra content.

The new business model will give players the opportunity to choose whether they want to play for free or become premium subscribers, and Funcom is also introducing an in-game store to the game where both free players and premium subscribers can purchase exclusive content such as weaponry and mounts. For a full overview of what differs from the free and premium offerings, please view the Frequently Asked Questions now available on Age of Conan community website.

Age of Conan has always been a Mature gaming experience, but going Unrated gives the development team freedom to stay even more true to the original works of Conan author Robert E. Howard, and use even more of the barbaric, brutal and sexy setting that is Howard's Hyboria. Funcom is already in the process of developing new locations, monsters, equipment and storylines for Age of Conan: Unrated. This includes the movie tie-in adventure pack announced yesterday, that will introduce content and characters from the upcoming Conan the Barbarian movie.

Award winning MMO adapts to new Hollywood production of "Conan the Barbarian"

Durham, USA, May 24th, 2011, Funcom is proud to announce the new content to "Age of Conan" that will tie together the game and the upcoming movie, "Conan the Barbarian". Set 20 years after the movie storyline, an epic new adventure pack, The Savage Coast of Turan finds players being sent by Conan, now King of Aquilonia, to aid his old ally Artus. The new adventure pack includes but is not limited to content from the movie, and allows players to follow epic storylines in Conan"s realm.

"We have worked closely with the Funcom creative team since 2003 and carefully crafted a unique look and feel for Conan's world," says Conan the Barbarian Producer and Paradox CEO Fredrik Malmberg. "Many of the concepts, locations and designs from the game development were utilized by the film team for consistency, and we are thrilled that many elements of the film, distributed by Lionsgate in the US and UK, will feel familiar to the Age of Conan players."

Slated for an August release, "Conan the Barbarian" tells the tale of Conan and his adventures across Hyboria. The new adventure pack launches players on exciting adventures, as they help Artus unravel the conspiracy and plots surrounding the city of Ardashir in Turan. The pack adds all new encounters, the massive new area of Ardashir, new dungeons and raids as well as new armor sets and monsters that moviegoers can already observe in the recently released theatrical movie trailer.

"We're excited to see the movie and the game combined in this brand new content," says Executive Producer for Age of Conan, Craig Morrison. "Being able to draw upon the characters, storylines, weapons, and monsters from the movie is tremendously exciting, and it will definitely compliment the wealth of content that already exists within the "Age of Conan" game world."

"Conan the Barbarian" is set for a wide release on August 19th. The film will be released in 3D and is set to star Jason Momoa in the lead role, being supported by Rose McGowan, Stephen Lang, Ron Perlman, Bob Sapp and Rachel Nichols, with Marcus Nispel directing.

- Funcom's proprietary Dreamworld engine first to feature server-side NVIDIA PhysX

- Fully rewritten render engine provides major performance improvements on high-end computers, as well as enabling more visual features on lower-end machines -

Durham, USA - March 30th, 2011 - Funcom and NVIDIA have announced that Funcom's proprietary Dreamworld 2.5, a leading game engine for massively multiplayer online games (MMOs), is the first game to incorporate server-side NVIDIA® PhysX®. This unique implementation into the Dreamworld engine  results in more than a doubling in the speed-of in-game physics processing vs. traditional client-side PhysX technology, delivering realistic collision effects within the online gaming environments.

Dreamworld currently powers two of the world's most popular massively multiplayer online games: Age of Conan and Anarchy Online with a third, The Secret World, currently in development. The updated Dreamworld Engine 2.5 with server-side PhysX is now live in Age of Conan.

"We are excited to be working closely with NVIDIA to integrate PhysX technology into our Dreamworld 2.5 engine," said Rui Casais, Chief Technology Officer at Funcom. "Server-side collision using PhysX will allow us to add a new level of realism to our online worlds, and we look forward to implementing other enhancements as well, including NVIDIA APEX clothing and destruction, to make our games even more interactive and immersive."

Recently, Funcom also introduced an entirely rewritten render engine to Age of Conan. You can download a video teaser that provides a look into the new improvements from the Funcom FTP site.

"We are also proud to have launched  a fully rewritten render engine for Age of Conan, yielding major performance increase on high-end systems and enabling several new visual features for lower end machines, said Casias. €œWe have been collaborating closely with NVIDIA in continuously improving the quality of the Dreamworld Render engine, resulting in fully new effects such as shader-based anti-aliasing techniques now being implemented in Age of Conan. The launch of the new engine is a major milestone towards the high requirements for visual performance in virtual adventures required for The Secret World."

Some people have asked, what is GameBreak and does not G4TV have a segment of the same name?

First off, "GameBreak" is a property of HNE.  "Game Break" was the property of G4TV until the end of 2007, when they dropped the segment for the "Gaming Update."

Second, "Game Break" is a segment that previews or reviews video games.  The segment is written and broadcasted in syndication over the radio and on video web sites.

HNE has added the summer 2008 and newer GameBreak segments to the YouTube web site.  You can find them, with other videos, at the URL below.

In the years we have posted game reviews, we really never had a seperate rating for the audio. Sound is an important part of many games, especially when music is the game. As of June 1, 2008, all games will include an audio rating.
